Registry of Physician Specialists

About Us

The Registry of Physician Specialists (RPS) is a locum tenens Medical Corporation that was created in 1988. Since then, we have provided primary care, specialty medical and mental health practitioners to primary care facilities, community clinics, hospitals, nursing centers and correctional facilities throughout the United States. RPS has more than 20 years of experience in successfully matching and placing healthcare providers with our clients. Our dedicated, professional team of recruiters has built an extensive resource network, and we are diligent about providing high quality healthcare via customized, flexible staffing solutions.

In recent years, the scope of RPS’s efforts has expanded through its Community Services Division (CSD) and The Registry Foundation, an affiliated non-profit organization. With CSD, we now work to support the staffing needs of community clinics and other community-based healthcare organizations. Through our affiliation with The Registry Foundation, RPS is committed to using education and training to increase the success of rehabilitation amongst former inmates and reduce recidivism.

History

Samuel G. Benson, M.D., Ph.D., a dedicated, visionary physician-scientist and humanitarian, established the Registry of Physician Specialist (RPS). He is President of the Board of Directors and is responsible for leading the efforts of all three areas of the organization: RPS, the Community Services Division and The Registry Foundation. Dr. Benson is broadly trained in medicine and basic sciences, and is an internationally recognized expert in the practice of psychiatry, with special expertise in corrective and forensic medicine.

Dr. Benson established Mental Health Providers of California, a Preferred Provider’s Organization, in 1988. This organization provided mental health services to many of California’s correctional facilities using a statewide network of practitioners. In 1994, the organization was restructured to accommodate growth of its client base and to expand capabilities in primary care and other medical specialty services. At that time, the organization was renamed The Registry of Physician Specialists (RPS). Since 1994, RPS has worked to provide short- and long-term replacement staffing solutions for the California Prison and Juvenile Justice systems, and in 1995, RPS contracted with the California Department of Corrections to provide mental health services for all of California. Since then, RPS has expanded the scope of organizations serviced to include the present roster of primary care facilities, community clinics, hospitals, nursing centers and corrections facilities throughout the US.

What We Do

Attention to individual needs, preferences and strengths are key elements of successful staffing solutions. The RPS recruiting team has a long, productive history of personal interaction with candidate providers and client organizations. We emphasize flexibility, individual attention and customized solutions. Our continuing one-on-one interactions and dialogues with our candidates gives us a good picture of their training, their healthcare and cultural competencies, as well as their expectations and preferences for career path and working environment. We give our clients this same degree of individual attention in order to have a good understanding of their staffing needs, work culture, business objectives and employee expectations.

We take pride in the reputation RPS has earned for having consistently solid support systems and reliable operations. The RPS support team is prompt and proactive in answering questions, providing credentialing information and resolving issues. Our clients and practitioners can rely on accurate accounting and timely receipt of billing and payment. The unpressured, open-door policy we maintain with our healthcare practitioners has prompted many to return as fits their career paths, thus further augmenting the RPS resource network.
